4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 99 Disco II seat cable, cable clamps, ncsu edu

Question
Matt - the rear split seat (right side) has a cable to release it from the floor. (This seat is just behind the front seats; not talking about the jump seats in the way back.) The cable is broken and seat would not release from floor.  Took it to dealer; they reached in with pliers(?), caught and pulled the cable, and it unlocked.  However they say the cable is not replaceable and I must buy a new seat frame.  Does not make sense to me.

Any idea how to take the seat apart and replace/repair the cable?  Do I need to take the seat completely out of the truck?  For now the seat is folded up completely which is great for cargo; however, if I let it down again for a passenger, the lock will engage and I will have the same problem again.

Answer
Adrain,

There is a way that you can possibly repair the cable. If you go to your local auto parts store or even a hardware store, you can purchase all sorts of crimpable cable clamps. They have two holes in them, they are small, and all you have to do is insert the severed cable into each end and crimp it with a pair of pliers and you up and running again. Here is a link to a picture so you know what to look for:

Thae part that is rusted in th picture is what you will need. If you can't find hese there are bolt on connectors as weel

Good luck
