4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 1999 GMC JIMMY 4WD NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, wheel drive vehicles, 4 wheel drive vehicles

Question
i HAVE A 1999 GMC JIMMY THAT THE 4WD ISN'T WORKING CORRECTLY IN. WHEN I TURN THE VIHICLE ON ALL THE BUTTONS ON THE PUSH BUTTON 4WD WILL LIGHT UP AND GO STAIGHT TO THE AUTO 4WD AND IN ORDER TO GET IT BACK INTO 2WD I HAVE TO UNHOOK THE CONTROL MODULE UNDER THE GLOVE BOX ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.  DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS TO WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH IT?

Answer
Andrea,
It sounds like you have a short in the control module, or a shorted switch.  This may not be too hard to trouble shoot yourself, if you purchase a repair manual.  They can be bought at most auto parts stores for around $20, and have a full trouble shooting section.  You can look this up, and see what it takes to test the control module and associated components.
Other than that, you may need to take it to a reputable transmission shop, preferably one that specializes in 4-wheel drive vehicles.
