4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Ford 2000 oil gage, oil pressure gauge, mote carlo

Question
Sometimes when I start my car, the oil gage needle sticks and the check gage light comes on. After a minute or two, the gage pops up and works and light goes off (twice the needle has gone back down after it has popped back up and I had been driving for about 2 or 3 minutes.) Also, my air bag light flashes on and off. The guy at the dealer says $800 to put in a new harness. He says he has seen a lot of this so maybe he could try to clean the pins. Does this sound right?

Answer
The oil thing could be normal. On my truck (87 Ranger) the rocker arms for the valves actually rattle until the oil pressure is built up, and right when i start it my oil pressure gauge reads about 10PSI which if you have the OEM oil gauge then it wont display numbers itll just show you normal. I would take your vehicle to Advance or AutoZone and have the connect an OBD2 Compliant scan tool, so see why your ECM is singaling the light, sometimes you can get the trouble code number by counting the number of flashes in the first set, and then a brief pause then it starts again. lets say my check eninge light flashes, and it flashes 3 times in a row, and then a brief pause then 4 times in a row, this would indicate a trouble code of 34, which would indicate a MAP or Vacuum Sensor, this will set when the signal voltage from the MAP sensor is to low. Instead the ECM will substitute a fixed MAP value and use the TPS to control fuel delivery. Replace the MAP sensor.
and this code was for a Chevrolet Mote Carlo. Your code may differ than the one i described, I used that code as an example.
