4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: jeep, code scanner, gas additive

Question
I have a 1989 cherokee 4.0 that runs great and has plenty of power, but under exceleration it hiccups and occasionaly dies. It has always started right back up, but this is extreamly anoying. Local shops have tried a few things, but found nothing

Answer
Steve,
It sounds as though you may have some water in your fuel.  Try using some gas additive/fuel system cleaner.
Another problem could be ignition, or plugged fuel injectors.
If the fuel cleaner doesn't seem to help, find a reputable shop that has a scanner that can be used while driving the Jeep.  This type of code scanner can find problems that don't show up unless the vehicle is under a load.
