4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 86 s-10 blazer brake lines, torque settings, auto parts stores

Question
i just got a 86 s-10 blazer from my brother and there is a leak in the brake line, near the front on the drivers side. he told me how to do it, i was just looking for a second opinion, i have access to a lift, which is what he told me i would most likely need. so can you tell me how to change the brake line?

thanks

Answer
Dan,

This is a simple fix, but you may need to buy a special open end wrench that is designed for brake lines.  When you are done, the brakes need to be bled.

Rather than trying to go into a detailed explanation by e-mail, I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual for your Blazer.  You can purchase a manufacturer's shop manual for it from a dealer.  They are quite expensive, normally costing, around $100.  A Chilton's or a Hayne's
manual would be a better buy, as they can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20.  They have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs, including a list of special tools that may be needed for a
specific job, nut sizes along with torque settings.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs, or maintenance yourself.
