4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Front defroster on 1997 Jeep Cherokee, jeep cherokee, window vent

Question
We have no air blowing out of the front center defroster vents in our 1997 Jeep Cherokee.  It blows just fine out of the side vents (that point towards the side windows).  The fan works properly, the heat/cool works as expected.  It's just that we get nothing from the front window vent.  I'm a do-it-yourself type but have little experience with cars.  Any advice?

You probably have a duct tube that has pulled apart under the dash.

I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual.  A Chilton's or a Hayne's manual can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20, and they have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs yourself.  They have step by step instructions on tracing out problems, along with diagrams and pictures showing the components.
