4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Best SUV or car for my needs, melbourne beach florida, washington dc area

I am looking to buy one of the smaller or midsized SUVs. What I am looking for is a vehicle that is easy to get in and out of, one that gets decent gas milage (my current vehicle gets around 25 mpg on highway. I do very little city driving)and be able to tow a small trailer if needed. I don't need anything to haul a boat or heavy equipment with. I just need something that if I want to go to the local garden center to get plants or mulch etc. I like the idead of an SUV because a regular car is hard for me to get in and out of. A truck will be out of the question because I need to be able to ride three people in it. I do not have a brand preference and do not mind a used vehicle.

Hi David and thanks for the question.  My personal vehicle is a 2001 Toyota Rav4 which I heartily endorse.  Honda also makes the CRV which is great.  There are many others that are probably almost as good as these two but I am not that familiar with them.  Go to Edmunds.com and do a comparasion search for more details.  Best of luck to you. ps:  We just spent three weeks in the Washington, DC area and drove there and back from East Central(Melbourne Beach) Florida and averaged just under 30MPG with absolutely no problems....
