4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 94 Explorer, auto parts stores, corrosion problems

Question
I don't know if you can answer this, but I have a 94 Explorer Limited 4x4. It has push button 4x4 and the 4x4 worked fine this morning, then i went to turn it on this afternoon, and nothing. The light wouldnt turn on or anyhthing. Just nothing. So i checked the fuses under the dash and in the power distribution box and they are good, also tested them with a test light. Please help if you can. Thank you

Answer
Mindy,

I don't know where you live, but in my area (on the coast), we have a lot of corrosion problems due to the salt air.  The Explorer should have an electronic shift for the transfer case, and if the transfer case has a bad ground, it can affect the shifting.  I would check out the wiring to the transfer case, and add a ground wire from the transfer case to the frame to see if this will cure the problem.  If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may have a faulty switch, or relay.

A repair manual would be a great help.  You can purchase these at most auto parts stores for, around $20.  They are invaluable if you plan on doing any repairs, or troubleshooting yourself.
