4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: 1995 Explorer Transmission, d light, transmission shop

Question
Transmission isnt shifting properly and O/D light is flashing.Using AutoXray tool it shows codes 646 and 647. Incorrect gear ratio for 2nd and 3rd gear.The O/D light went out after  I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes.I test drove and trans would shift at 4000 rpms into Drive only if I let up on the gas pedal.

This is just a guess, but many of these transmissions are shifted electronically, and due to the mounting of the motor, and transmission they tend to have less than adequate grounding.  The first thing you should try, is to install a ground strap directly from the transmission to the frame.  Make sure that the negative terminal on the battery, also has a good ground.

Other than that, I would take the Explorer to a reputable transmission shop, and have them drive it with you, so that you can show them the problem first hand.
