4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Dodge Durango Power Windows, dodge durango, auto parts stores

Question
My vehicle is a 2004 Dodge Durango. My back, driver side, window won't go down, even if I use that door's switch or the driver's seat switch. It started about a week ago when you could only control the back window with that door's switch, but now neither switch works. Would it be the switch or a motor?

Answer
Kellie,

Originally, I would have suspected the switch, but now that the window doesn't work with either switch, I would suspect the motor, or a bad connection somewhere.  If you want to try to trace the problem yourself, I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual, and a cheap voltmeter, or test light.  If you don't feel that you can check this out yourself, you may be able to find a friend that could help.  If it is a bad connection, or switch, this is fairly easily repaired with minimal tools.  A motor replacement can be a little more difficult.

Before you do any work yourself, you should contact your Dodge dealer, and see if this is warranty problem, or if there is a recall on your model for this repair.  This Dodge is new enough that it should have some sort of warranty.

A Chilton's or a Hayne's manual can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20, and they have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs, along with electrical diagrams.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs yourself.
