4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Airbag Light and Instrument Panel, cherokee sport, auto parts stores

Question
I have a 98 cherokee sport 2wd.  The problem I have is this.  My airbag light stays on constantly while the vehicle is running causing all of the instruments in the cluster to stop working. This problem would come and go over the last few months but is now a constant.  I have checked the fuses inside the vehicle and they are all fine.

Answer
Joey,

It sounds like you have a loose connection, or a bad ground in the instrument cluster.  It could be a bad solder joint, or a crack in the circuit board.  If you want to trouble shoot the problem yourself, I would suggest that you a repair manual.  You can purchase a manufacturer's shop manual for the Jeep, but they are quite expensive, normally costing, around $100.  A Chilton's or a Hayne's manual can be purchased at most auto parts stores for $20, and they have a lot of information on basic trouble shooting, and repairs, along with wiring diagrams.  These manuals are designed for a year or range of years for specific vehicles, and are invaluable if you are planning on doing any repairs yourself.
