4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: Shock position, 4x4 dodge, dodge dealer

Question
I have a new 4x4 Dodge Dakota extended cab pick up.  The other day I noticed the back left side of the vehicle was about one inch higher than the right side measuring form the tire to the wheel well top.  I also noticed that the shocks are attached opposite each other.  One (the left) is in back of the axil and the other (right) is in front of the axil.  Question is: why? and what could be going on with the difference in height?

Answer
David, the suspension systems on the new vehicles are far too complicated for me but I am sure your Dodge dealer can answer your question.  The fore and aft shocks dont bother me as they are surely designed that way but I would be concerned about the height descrepincy.  Please let me know what you find out in case anybody else needs to know.  Best of luck, Bud
