Toyota Repair: Replacing Toyota 4Runner 1996 power antenna, interior molding, toyota 4runner

Question
I have a Toyota 4Runner 1996. How do you feed a new antenna cable from the fender to behind the radio?  Do you have to remove the entire dashboard? The old antenna cable is still in place (just missing the antenna housing and motor). I'm replacing with a new powered antenna. I've already removed the wheel-well splash panel and exposed the old antenna cable. I've also removed the glove box and the plastic interior molding where the antenna comes in through the fender.  Looks like I have to remove the airbag now! I've thought of trying to attach the new antenna cable to the end of the old cable and pulling it through to the radio, but it looks like too many 90 degree turns behind the dash. Do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Sandy

Answer
You don't have to remove the air bag, it is not necessary to route the antenna cable exactly like the original cable, once you get the cable through the opening in the firewall, with the glove box removed you can route it anywhere there is room as long as it gets to the radio, we normally cut the old cable and leave it in place.
