4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: transmission rear seal, model jeep, cherokee sport

Question
I am trying to replace the rear tranmission seal on a 1996 Cherokee Sport. I have removed the drive shaft, but how do I get the rear seal out from here? There is a circular metal housing where the drive went in and I see the seal, but where do I go from here? This seems so simple but I'm stumped. Please advise.

Answer
Pete,

First of all, I believe that you are working on the transfer case, unless you have a 2 wheel drive model.  Seals usually require a special tool for removal, and installation.  I would suggest that you purchase a repair manual (around $20) for your model Jeep.  These manuals give step by step instructions on most repairs, along with a list of any special tools required.  These manuals can come in handy for future trouble shooting.  They can be purchased at most auto parts stores.
