Jeep: 94 Grand Cherokee wont start, grand cherokee laredo, grand cherokee

Hi, I have a 94 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 5.2L 4x4 and when when I turn the key The dash lights and fan comes on but nothing else happens. It wont crank, no clicking, absolutely nothing. I thought it was the starter but I put the key in the on position and climbed under the car and put a screwdriver between the starter and solenoid and it started and I was able to drive it. It has a brand new fuel pump and battery. I thought maybe the factory security system is locking out the starter, but that is just a wild guess. I am stumped. Can you help.

I would still look at the starting system.  To rule out the starter you must check voltage at the starter trigger wire, when in start position it should have power, if not replace the starter.  Jumping the terminals bypasses the solenoid.  I would then go to the starter relay and fuse.  If they are good you may have a bad ignition switch.  Lastly I would look at the security system.  Hope I could help you!
