Suzuki: 1998 suzuki sidekick clutch cable, suzuki sidekick, clutch cable

Question
i was backing up the other day and when i went to put my car in gear it wouldn't come out of reverse with the clutch fully engadged.i can turn the car off and it goes through all the gears just fine, but if i start the car up in neutral it will not go into any gear, and if i start it up in gear it wont come out of that gear. i converted my sidekick from a 2wd auto into a 4x4 manual about a year ago and haven't had any problems out of it till now. i deleted the clutch start as well. theirs' about 3" of cable sticking out under my dash, but when you push the clutch in you can feel the cable move all the way through the line. even the linkage down on the transmission moves.

Answer
Look at the clutch cable where it curves around the front of the engine, it's not unusual for the cable housing to fail there.  Measure the amount of travel(movement) of the cable at the clutch pedal, and compare it to the amount at the trans.  If they are not identical, you have a bad cable.
It's also possible for the lever in the trans, or for the pressure plate or pilot bearing to fail, but clutch cable failure is the most common cause of your symptom.
