Suzuki: vibration in 1999 Suzuki Vitara, 1999 suzuki vitara, suzuki vitara

Question
QUESTION: I recently purchased a Suzuki with a vibration.  This is not a road vibration but one that turns up when the car is started and shifted into neutral, forward or reverse at an idle speed.  Once it gets over 1200 RPM's it seems better.  I have had it on a scope and nothing showed up on their computer re an electrical problem. The transmission has also been checked.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

ANSWER: I would initially check engine mounts.  Sometimes as mounts deteriorate, they transmit more vibration, instead of isolating it.

QUESTION: Thanks - I have checked them and they appear to be fine.  They are in a very difficult place and I would hate to replace them if they don't need it.
Perhaps I'm going to have to do this as I sure can't come up with anything else.  This little car has been checked over from stem to stern by myself and other professionals...

Answer
If there's a vibration when the vehicle isn't running down the road, it is obviously coming from the engine.  Sometimes it's mounts getting older and stiffer and transmitting more vibration.  If the engine itself is vibrating, especially only at idle, it could be problem with the mixture, an injector delivering less than the others, dirty injectors giving a lousy spray pattern that doesn't mix and ignite well, a problem with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, or an intake or exhaust valve not sealing well, but only able to upset combustion at idle speeds.

Verifying the function of the oxy sensor, that it's cycling the mixture, and "clamping" properly, whether there are high hydrocarbons from a failure to burn fuel completely, or ignite it properly, or because the air/fuel mixing is due to a bad injector spray pattern......Gotta check them all, until you find the cause.

If it's not mounts, then the engine is idling roughly - that's at least only one thing to deal with.....
