Suzuki: 95 suzuki sidekick 1.6 16 valve, suzuki sidekick, highway speed

Question
Can anyone tell me what the oil pressure should be on a suzuki 1.6 16 valve engine at a idle? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
It depends on the viscosity rating of the oil, and the oil temperature.  It could be anywhere between 50psi with 20w-50 oil at 0 degrees Fahrenheit and 10psi with 0w-30 at 200 degrees Fahrenheit. (please note that I'm talking about the actual temp of the oil, not ambient temp)  As an example, with an ambient temp of 32F, using 5w-30 oil and from a cold start in the morning, it could easily take 20-30 minutes of highway speed operation to get the oil temp up to 180F.  It take longer to raise the oil temp, and longer to drop it as well, unless the vehicle has a oil to coolant intercooler, in which case it happens about three times faster.  In addition, as you've no doubt noticed, raising the rpm is a factor as well.  If this doesn't make sense, ask me more questions.
