Answer
My only certain experience is with my '89 sidekick.  I did not have to pull the engine.  Get underneath it, and look.  Is there clear access to the pan bolts?  You will probably have to take the lower flywheel cover off to gain access to the rearmost row of pan bolts.  If you attempt to drop the pan straight down, are there any parts in the way?  Keep in mind that the oil pump pickup extends to the lowest part of the pan.  Is there that much again room directly underneath the pan?
