Tips on Buying Cars: RE: Buying vehicle from U.S., toronto ontario canada, import into canada

Question
Mr. Paulsen,

My postal code is L5T 4L3.

Hopefully this falls into your area of expertise.

I currently reside in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am interested in purchasing a new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer ES from a dealership, preferably in Buffalo. My questions are as follows: 1) Is it possible to be a Canadian resident and purchase a brand new vehicle from a U.S. dealership? 2)If so, I understand when bringing it over, you have to pay a certain amount in taxes on it, is this the case and if so, do you know how much approximately on a say $24,000 vehicle? 3)With regards to warranty, would it be honored in Canada should something happen? 4) What about licensing and registration fees? 5) Also, if I missed something that would be considered crucial in this process, please advise.

Any light you can shed on this matter would be of great help.

Thank You,

Ziggy

Answer
Yes it falls into my area of expertise and I have answers way to many questions about import into Canada in many forums since the Canadian dollar went beyond the American.

but for you Ziggy one more time...lol

A dealer in US is not allowed to sell a brand new car for export, only to US residence.

Example... A Mitsubishi dealer in Niagara Falls area, why is dealership in business if consumers could simply cross into US and buy for less ?

Now if your thoughts are used its not a problem

When you come to realize you cant buy a new car from the States but want your best deal on a 2008 Lancer let me know, I happen to have a close friend selling Mitsubishi in your area, if Interested contact me through my website  http://www.usedcartips.org/  with a phone #
