Tips on Buying Cars: help too many decisions!?!, home turf, leasing a new car

Question
QUESTION: hi, im in Toronto, Canada

im a teen and am planning on either buying a used car (7000- 10000) or leasing a new car. i was going to buy a used golf that i found in auto trader but have been told by more than a couple of people that VW's had bad electrical problems, and that in general VW's are more expensive to fix. For a down payment the most i could do would be 5000 and I would like to know what you think as far as which car i should be looking at because i was thinking more of a toyota/honda for reliability, but toyota has nothing sporty other than the matrix (which is a little bit out of my price range), and the civic supposedly has a much higher insurance rating.

Also my economics teacher was saying that due to the Canadian dollar reaching almost par to American and the stuff that happened with Porsche that other makers would have to follow suit and lower prices in Canada. So do you think i should just wait?

Any advice or tips you may have for me would be great.

ANSWER: Hi joseph
only you can decide, new car , used car, lease car, or wait, I understand your question but your all over the map totally lost.

1... Lease a car no thank you
2... listen to other people it will be negative or positive subject to their experience
3... best car to buy, most answers will be toyota - honda, in today's maket not my choice.
4... wait to buy a car thinking you will save money, highly unlikely.

Go to my website    http://www.usedcartips.org/   and pick up some pointers, from there you will have more questions, contact me through the site, I am located on your home turf and will guide you getting a fair deal, but first understand the buying process by study

QUESTION: why is Toyota or Honda not your choice??
- I wanted to get a VW Golf 2003, but am now thinking about getting a matrix based solely on the reputation of Toyotas (my family has 2 corollas)
I'll admit im kind of all over the map but its all in one scenario
Wanted to get a used golf (6000-10,000)
then decided that if a new one is only 14,000 why not just wait a while and buy a new one when i get the money.

Answer
I think Toyota and Honda are excellent proven choice's, but at same time domestic products have come a long way for a lot less money, sure resale value are much higher but you also pay more up front.

What suits your lifstyle may not be mine as for handling and price, choices I would consider a Focus hatchback lease returns along with Suzuki, I really like the Matrix for style and handling but its not worth the extra bucks to me, but then again when I was your age style and label was a main factor.
