Tips on Buying Cars: Returning a new car, returning a new car, insurance paperwork

Question
I bought a new car a day ago and want to return it for another car.  The financer is waiting for my insurance company to fax them insurance information. I have the car at my house.  Can I exchange for another car with better financing and a better price.  The financer said they can't finance the car unless they receive my insurance information.  I told my insurance company not to send or fax information to them.  Can I renegotiate another car with better car price and finance charge?

Answer
There aren't any laws on the books that govern this type of situation, at least that I'm aware of.  So, it's pretty much up to the dealer and you.  It's a give-and-take thing; how willing is the dealer to re-negotiate, and how tough are you when it comes to working with the dealer?  You have the upper hand by refusing to let your insurance agent send the necessary paperwork.  Return to the dealer as soon as possible and let them know exactly what you want.  If they give you a difficult time, just keep reminding them of the status of the insurance paperwork on the current car.
