Tips on Buying Cars: honda civic LE, car nuts, ford fusion

Question
We are very much considering purchasing a 2007 honda civic sedan LE with an interest rate of 4.9 for 5 years.  The sticker price was 18,333.We talked them down about a thousand below that price.  In your opinion is this a fair price for the vehicle?  Your opinion on the vehicle?  Any other info would be appreciated. We are looking for a small sedan and this is consumer reports #1 pick.

Thanks,
Joseph

Answer
The price is just about right; if you're comfortable with the dealer and the salesperson, then there's little point in shopping any further.  You might save another hundred or two by intense shopping and negotiating, but you have to put a price on your time, not to mention the aggravation.

The Civic has always been a good little car, and they're ideal if what you're looking for is a "transportation appliance."  You know, minimum of fuss getting you from A to B, because a car isn't the most important thing in your life.  This is very difficult for us "car nuts"  to understand, so we tend to recommend vehicles that may not work for you. I leased a Ford Fusion a couple months ago, and love it.  4-cylinder SE with an automatic, highly-recommended by CR (been very reliable, according to them), roomy, quiet, comfortable, and an absolute blast to drive.  If you're looking for more than just an appliance, check it out.  If BMW could build a car for under $20,000- well, the Fusion would be it.
