Tips on Buying Cars: Hyundai Santa fe, hyundai santa fe, cars minivans

Question
Hi, I am looking to purchase a used Santa fe 2001 with 94000 miles the dealer wants 6999.00 for it it is fully loaded. I think it's a very nice car for the age it is. What should I be looking for and do you think the price is Okay. I'm just scared to buy someone else problem. But, I do need a car and the price sounds good to me.

Answer
Oh this is a good one, a newer car with high miles, a good lesson for all out there.  What I'm getting at: It's newer and cheaper than similar cars its age for a reason, its a hyundai.... new KIA's are cheap too but it doesn't make them a good choice.... Sometimes older cars with less miles would be better choices... especially if its a better brand... just something to think about...  As for yours... It is listed at a sticker that seems low even for a hyundai, kinda makes me wonder, make sure if you go any further on this that they offer a warrenty.... If you can get them to ~6500-7000 out the door it'd seem to be a good deal, but as i said it is a hyundai, its risky, its cheap for a reason.  Do you need an SUV? do you just want one? or would a minivan or car/wagon fit your needs better? more to think about... Unless you are hauling alot of stuff and pulling a boat, you dont NEED an suv... Anyways, as for the car and the deal, seems to be a decent price, dont pay more than 7000 for the car (i'd aim for closer to 6, or 7000 out the door) - its a risk, not a super well built truck, not a super reliable company, get a warrenty if you do it- be sure you check your options: explorers, cr-v's, rav4's, 4 runners, cars, minivans, etc... you should be able to find a 98-99 with ~60-70k miles for a similar price, 70k on a toyota is like 120k on your hyundai... keep that in mind, the build year usually weighs most on the interior build quality, which is supperior in all the options, average on the santa fe... basically negates the point of getting a newer vehicle... the santa fe seems a good price, for a decent car, its a 50/50 risk, It all depends on if they go low enough to make the risk worth it for you.
