Tips on Buying Cars: first car, montreal quebec canada, family members name

Question
Hi my name is Tom and i live in montreal quebec canada. i am currently 17 and i am going for my probationary license next month and was wondering what would be a good car for me to use as a first! for a short while ill be driving my mothers car but thats only in the evenings and i will need a car for 24/7 as i am hoping to get a job that is not in walking distance. i personally dont mind what the car looks like. to tell the truth i dont like cars such as honda or volkswagon (find them too small and too expensive to repair) i am also looking for something that wont cost me a fortune in insurance i know that it is inevidenble for my age and sex but i know there are "loop-holes" around that. well hope to hear from you soon thanks!

Answer
Hi Tom
There really are no loop- holes around insurance unless your able to qualify as a second driver which means your first car will be in another family members name...

Here is what i would do if i was your age looking for an inexpensive car and knowing the insurance was going to be nasty

A large dealership will be out of the question unless i am willing to pay $ 5000. plus taxes and then one is lucky if a car is to be found thats worthy in that price range

My first step, shop your local community paper from there small car lots...if i found something i like i would not commit till i know INS cost and have vehicle inspection

I want you to go to my website  http://usedcartips.bravehost.com/
click on TEST DRIVE and from there navigate to TAKE TO MECHANIC if seller wont let you have vehicle inspected you must walk away...
I have known many cars being sold in the $ 2000. range or less lasting for another few years...it all comes down to you having done homework and my website is a good study for you
Good Luck
 Ray
