Tips on Buying Cars: Converting EU 200SX to US Specs, bud ford, 200sx

I saw your earlier advice.  I have a 1992 200SX turbo.  I want to bring it back to the States, and I am wondering what is involved in converting a car to US specs.  I definately do not want to spend more on the car than it is worth.  Is there any way you can give me an estimated price, or tell me what exactly the difference is between US and EU specs.  Thanks for your help.

Hi Kenneth and thanks for the question.  My advice would be to check with US Customs and they will give you the specs.  Then check with one of the importers, on whichever coast, you are planning to use and they will give you the name of one or more convertors they use.  You can then check with them and they will give you an ESTIMATE of the costs.  You can then to Edmunds.com and find the current value of the vehicle.  My guess is that you will be better off financially selling the car wherever you are after you determine the cost of converting, freight,customs and whatever costs you discover.  Please let me know so I can pass the same info to others with the same or similar questions.  Thanks and best of luck, Bud Ford
