Tips on Buying Cars: Looking at an older BMW, 1992 bmw 325i, bmw dealer

Question
55128

I was looking for a SUV as a third car and stumbled across a 1992 BMW 325i. Nice looking and in decent condition for $3k. No accidents, but minor issues (ac compressor bad, heated seated not working, brake sensor light on). Having never owned an import before, are there things I should be aware of? Will servicing the car be considerably more money? Finally, any issues you are aware of with BMW's and the 325 in particular? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Ricci
BMW's are top peformance vehicles and the 325 is the compact entry level for 1992. there are no major issues to report...however the car is going on 14 years old and thats the scary part as labour and parts are very expensive...
If you really are considering purchase make it subject to mechanical inspection at a BMW dealer it will be worth cost...
with the problems you mentioned alone my guess is your looking at heavy coin...
SUMMARY
Being in the business I could purchase a 1992 BMW for much less than $ 3000. in fair running condition should i want a second car...but the thought of any mechanical failure would keep me away from the transaction
