Tips on Buying Cars: Dependable Used Vehicle within budget, mechanical inspection, safety inspection

We are going to help our son purchase a used vehicle that will be used for commuting to work and transporting their two small children under 3. We want something dependable and safe. Our budget is $5000 or less.  Any tips you can provide us on what type/year of cars to focus on and things to look for will be greatly appreciated.

On a budget of $5000. or less with two little children it really comes down to safety before choice...forget the year or make it really is secondary in this price range...
If you find a vehicle that suits your budget and really like...make the deal subject to a mechanical inspection of your choice, it will be well worth the extra money and peace of mind as for safety for your grand children...
Phone someone close in your area as to charge having a safety inspection and overall condition report...if the person or dealer wont allow... then walk away from the deal
