Tips on Buying Cars: 2001 Olds Bravada, smart trak, trak system

Question
Steve,Thank you for your voulenteering support: I have been looking at a '01 Olds Bravada with 42,250 miles for 13,995; is this a good vehicle for the price? It is equipped with the Smart Trak system and is FULLY loaded (Sunroof, heated seats, mirrors, leather BOSE sound system, etc.) I have been looking at NADA and Kelly BB values. Is there anything I can do to lower the price (a lower price is always better...lol)? What should I watch out for when buying this vehicle so I won't be taken advantge of? Also is this better, as good or not as good as a 4x4 vehicle? Also any other info would be helpful pertaining to this vehicle. Thanks for your help sir!   Tony

Answer
Hi Tony,
I like this vehicle...BUT. It will be 4 years old, will not be made anymore. That will not hinder you if you need parts for at least 10 years or so. First spend a few $$$$ and go online and do a car fax, you need the vin number. If the car comes back clean (if a non reported no police report accident has happened it may not show). If the car is in GOOD condition, i feel the $13995 is too high. Yea all these books give different prices, Though it is not a 4X4 not a problem, should still do a very good job.....I would offer $11750.00. Then if they listen, do not be too anxious, without going into specifics, hint you found another vehicle that fits the bill......I would go as high as $12500 NO MORE........You can point out it is nearing 50,000 miles, and that is a major price point on a vehicle.....No one will lose any money selling this for $12,500.....If you fell you really want to have this vehicle, then pay what you are comfortable with, but the asking price is too high...Let me know what happens and if i can be of any more help...GOOD LUCK!
