Tips on Buying Cars: wheel covers, hub caps, hub cap

Question
To Ray: Thank you for your message. On my new car if I wanted to take the wheel off, there is no "hub cap" to pry loose. All I would do is loosen the lug nuts. I do not have to pry anything loose to remove the wheel. What about cars that you have to pry something loose? Is that thing you pry loose called a hub cap? Thank you. Al Brown

I recently purchased a 2004 Hyundai 4-door Accent. My Owner's Manual states that my car has "13-inch Steel and Deluxe Wheel Covers with 13-inch All-Season Tires". My question is this: What is the difference between a hub cap and a "wheel cover"? Thank you. Al Brown

Hi Al
There is no difference in the old days the term hub caps were used...now more people call them wheel covers...
you got steel rims...but 13 inch Steel and deluxe wheel covers sounds better...
the term rims will be used when you say...Alloys or Alum...

Answer
Hi again Al
I am located in Canada and depending whom you confront some will call them Hubs and some will say wheel covers...to me i still use the term Hubs for anything plastic...in the old days they were all the type you had to pry...now some are screw on to fit more secure and most people will use the term wheel covers...but to me its still a type of Hub Cap with a more fancy name...
