Tips on Buying Cars: transferring a lease, bud ford, lease co

Hi. My girlfriend has a leased 03 Civic in her father's name. The insurance is also in her father's name. Her father needs to get this car out of his name entirley...Is it possible to transfer a lease and title over to another person? Nothing about this car is in her name. She is looking to get the title in her name and also get insurance in her name.Thanks!

Hi Todd and thanks for the interesting question.  Points to Ponder.  The title is not in her fathers name, it is in the name of the entity that leases it to him(her).  As to transferring the lease to her that is up to the entity that is leasing it.  In normal cases like this they will agree to transfer it to her name, BUT, the responsibility for the payments will still ultimately be her fathers until the lease is fully paid and the return of the car is accepted.  Insurance should be no problem.  The title would only go to her if she purchased the car at the conclusion of the lease.  If you have more specific questions please let me know.  If you do let me know where you live, who the lease co. is, the terms of the lease and any other info you think would be helpful.  Best of luck, Bud Ford
