Tips on Buying Cars: export car to mexico, us border patrol, grand caravan

Question
My husband and I live in PA, he wants to purchase a used car from a person selling in NY.  The car is a 2000 grand caravan.  Can he use an In-transit permit to export it to Mexico?  Or does he need to register it in PA and then he can drive it into Mexico.  He plans on leaving it in Mexico.

Answer
Jenny,

Thanks for your question.  He can use an in-transit permit.  You will need to call the US Border Patrol, and make sure that you have all of the documentation that he will need to bring the car across the border.  He will have to show proof that he owns the vehicle, and there are various ways to prove that, but the best way so that I don't give you any mis-information, is to call the US Border Control to get the specifics on what he will need to show proof.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
