Tips on Buying Cars: Conditional Delivery Agreements, delivery agreements, predicament

Question
Your answer was so helpful regarding the gentleman from 2008.  Unfortunately, I am in the same predicament.   The good news, or not, is that the dealership did not have me sign one of these agreements and 5 days later, wants to fax it to me and now sign it. What if I don't sign?  You said the best thing is just to give the car back, but what is the downside of sending the payments to the dealership?  Will they try to change the terms or reposess the car?

Answer
Dee,

Thanks for your question.  There is a huge downside.  Technically if you are one day late on making a payment, they can repossess your car, if your down payment wasn't good, they can repossess your car.  There are a lot of downsides to letting the dealership handle the loan for you, and more downsides exist for the dealership to do that.  Secondly, you can sign the form, but it requires an original signature, not a faxed signature.  My suggestion to you....let the dealership have the car back!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks - JB
