Tips on Buying Cars: cancel used car contract before taking car, car contract, pickle

i put a down pymt on a 2000 Nissan and now I have changed my mind  - the paperwork is signed but I don't want the car.  can I call the dealer and tell them i want to cancel...I will prob lose the deposit but that is ok...thanks.  I live in NJ

Thanks for your question.  Actually, if you have not taken delivery of the vehicle, their is no deal.  You are entitled to your entire money back.  If you have taken delivery of the vehicle, then you are in what I would call a pickle.  That would be up to the dealer.  A contract is not valid unless you have taken possession of the vehicle, so you would be entitled to all of your money back. Do not let anyone tell you any differently!
