Tips on Buying Cars: buy a car out of state - follow-up question, departments of transportation, internet search

Question
I live in TX and want a car in CA.  I read your answer about flying out there and buying it directly and driving it back.  Can you provide any further details based on where I live and where the car is?  Also, what type of tips do you have for inspecting the vehicle in such a situation?

Answer
Sorry about taking so long to reply, but I've been unable to log into the allexperts site since just before the holidays.  You need to check with both the CA and TX departments of transportation to see what you'll need in CA to buy the car, and what TX will require once you return home.  As for an inspection, do an internet search to see if there's a dealer or repair shop in the CA area that would be willing to look at the car for you for a fee.  Or do you know someone personally in CA that's familiar with cars and can look at it for you?
