Tips on Buying Cars: Tax on Rebates and Dealer Cash, ultimate sales, net sales

Question
Jeremy - you answered a question regarding a NY purchase of a vehicle and how the sales tax is calculated before the rebate and/or down payment.  Can you tell me if it is the same for the State of Florida?

Answer
Dana,

Sales Tax in the state of Florida is figured on the Ultimate sales price of the vehicle.  For instance, if you have a vehicle that sales for $24,500 and a rebate of $2,000 then your net sales price would be $22500 and that is the price that you would pay sales tax on.  Your down payment does not get figured into the price that you ultimately pay sales tax on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
