Tips on Buying Cars: cancellation of auto finance contract, local tv stations, definitive manner

Question
I'm from Austin TX and recently bought a new vehicle, signed the finance contract but I have not received the car because of the delay, the car was coming from Houston Texas and due to the recent storm. Its been two weeks from the date I signed my contract. I'm coming to a point to change my mind and cancel my contract and find another dealer who can provide me a car that is available. I have a down payment of 2,000. Do I have a right to cancel my contact because my 30 days is coming soon. I cannot find in my contract that I have 30 days to cancel my contract if I am not satisfied.

Answer
The laws regarding refunds of business transactions vary from state to state, so it's impossible for me to answer your question in any definitive manner (no way I can know the laws of all 50 states).  You should first talk to the dealer and see how willing they are to refund your deposit.  If it becomes a problem, then you need to find out who in your state regulates this issue and get in touch with them.  Here in New York State, it's the Attorney General's office.  If one of your local TV stations has one of those "action teams," the reporter that helps consumers, you might want to check with them for help, too.
