Tips on Buying Cars: Lien/Title release, dept of trans, lien holder

Question
How long does a lien holder have to release title once the lien has been satisfied?  Can the lien holder hold onto title indefinitely until requested by registered owner, or are they required to release title and send to registered owner once lien has been satisfied?

Answer
The laws are different state to state, you can look it up through your city name + dept of trans.org and they can give you individual state laws. You should always call the bank and make sure they have the correct address and ask them how long is the process going to take. Some banks will send the title through the state to issue it back to you. Banks are slow, you have to stay on them and yes they are required to send you the title once the lein is satisfied.
