Tips on Buying Cars: Returning a vehicle, negative equity, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: I've had a vehicle for over a year and have never been late on payments, but, unfortunately, am no longer able to afford the vehicle. If I return the vehicle to the dealership, with no late payments and current payment already made, what are the consequences?

ANSWER: You will have a repo on your credit for 10 years.

QUESTION: Thanks for responding. So, if I actually purchased another vehicle, before the old vehicle was returned, it still wouldn't matter?

Answer
Well, you could purchase another before you return it to the bank if your credit will withstand it. You will still have a repo on your credit. Is your goal just to get a lower payment? You probably have too much negative equity to trade it in on another. Did you lease or finance?
