Tires: tire inflation, psi max, chrome rims

Question
My 2012 truck has 245/70/17 load range C 50psi inflation on the door jam.
I put on chrome rims with new tires 245/70/17 load range E. that are calling for 80 psi max.
The only thing that changed is the load range.
what is the min/max PSI for this new tire or do I still go by the Door jam specs.
They balanced the tires at 80 psi in them. does that make a difference, if I lower the psi. Right now my truck runs like it has wooden cart wheels on it and the rims on the front get very hot to the touch. Is that common with disc brakes with spoked chrome rims
Thanks ahead of time for your help

Answer
Tom,

The tire size determines the relationship between the inflation pressure and the load carrying capacity.  The Load Range determines how much is the maximum.  So the inflation pressure called for by the vehicle tire placard - 50 psi - is the proper pressure for both Load Range C and Load Range E.

If, for example, you had Load Range E tires originally and the vehicle tire placard called for 65 psi, you couldn't use Load Range C because they max out at 50 psi - but you could use Load Range D tires.

Balancing?  Doesn't matter what the pressure wasn't small - say in the teens.
