Tires: Tire noise, all terrain tires, wheel bearings

Question
Recently purchase a set of brand new tires - while the truck was in the shop I had it aligned. Since having the new tires of the truck the noise that the tires make is somewhat anoying to say the least. Is the noise a result of the tires being "broken in" or a result of the new alignment. Please note that the tires are not a mud grip tire - but a simple all terrain tread. The truck is a 2003 GMC 2500 HD - has never been aligned prior to this.

Answer
Tony,

As a general rule, all terrain tires are more noisy than all season tires.

Alignment?  Unless they messed it up, an alignment should help, not hurt.  But I don't think you should dismiss the possibility.

Plus, there is also a possibility that there is something else causing the noise which happened at the same time the tire were replaced.  Things like wheel bearings and u joints can makes noises that sound like they are coming from the tires.

I would suggest you get a mechanic to ride in the truck with you.  Diagnosing a noise via the internet is difficult because describing a noise can never replace actually hearing it.
