Tires: UNIROYAL Tiger Paw AWP 11 Tires, uniroyal tiger paw, road hazard

I purchased a set of the above tire on July 29 2011 for a Versa.  Today August 3rd I noticed a budge about the size of half an orange, and the tire seems about to separate from the rim. This concerns me and I do not feel comfortable with this tire. Is this a safe reliable tire? I will return the tire to the place where purchased on tomorrow, and at this point I'm seriously thinking about requesting another brand. What would you recommend if I am able to change brands?.

What probably happened is that the tire encountered an object and broke some of the ply cords.  A pretty common road hazard.  This has a lot to do with the roads around your area, and not so much about the tire itself.

Yes, you should be concerned and have the tire replaced, but unless you purchased road hazard insurance when you bought the tires, you will likely have to buy a new one.
