Tires: Single Tire Replacement, yokohama geolander, tire replacement

Question
We have a 2009 Forester with Yokohama Geolander 225/R17 95H with 24000 miles which came with the car. We have a slow leak in our sidewall. The treads are approximately 1/4". If we find the same tire with similar tread (actual miles unknown)-is it ok to replace the single tire instead of all 4? -Thank you.

Answer
Jim,

I believe your owners manual will tell that you that you have to be careful about the tires on your Subaru.  Some of them are very sensitive to differences in rolling diameter.

What you have proposed sounds acceptable, but be aware that you are trying to minimize a risk and there are a lot of things that could go wrong.  The only sure way to avoid the driveline problem Subaru's are noted for is to replace all 4 tires.
