Tires: Tube Tyre, tubeless tire, tubeless tyres

Question
Is it safe to use tube tyre as tubeless. The perception in Indian mechanics is that tube tyre and tubeless tyres are the same.

Answer
Vidyahar,

If the purpose of putting a tube in a tubeless tire is to repair the air holding properties of a tire that has been punctured, then no, this is not safe.

If the purpose of putting a tube in a tubeless tire is to allow it to be used in place of a comparable (and I emphasize the word "comparable") tubetype tire, then that is OK.

But you can NEVER use a tubetype tire without the tube in place of a tubeless tire - and even if a tube is used, then there is some risk.

- And I haven't even addressed the issue of when are tubetype tires NOT comparable to tubeless tires, which is way more complex than this Q & A format allows.

To completely avoid any errors, the general rule has been to never use a tube in a tubeless tire, and never use a tubeless tire in place of a tubetype tire.
