Tires: Winter tires on 2001 Impala, chevy impala, diameter range

Question
Hello David,
I have a 2001 Chevy Impala(basic Sedan). I currently use (4) all season tires, size 225/60R/16 on my vehicle. I was wondering if I purchase (4) 215/60R/16 snow tires, will these work on my vehicle?  I have looked on Tire Rack and it lists these 215/60R/16 as an alternate size for my vehicle, but I want to make sure that they wouldn't cause any problems for me when driving or show a different MPH when viewing my speedometer.  Can you offer any advice? My model does not have ABS. I currently live in Buffalo, NY so my driving conditions can sometimes get out of hand, and I just don't want to add to the hazards that are already present on the road.  Any info would help.  Thank you!

Answer
Dear Gabrielle,
Thank you for using AllExperts.
I have checked the overall diameter of both tire sizes:
P225/60R16 = 26.61" (highway traction)
P215/60R16 = 26.38" (deep traction)
The 215/60 size is within the acceptable diameter range for a replacement tire and will not have any notably affect on your odometer, speedometer.  How about load capacity?
My records indicate that your 2001 Chevy Impala requires 30 psi front and rear according to the TIRE INFORMATION PLACARD placed in your vehicle (usually on the driver's side door jam).  Please confirm this.
Upon confirmation, you may use the (P)215/60R16 snow tires ONLY if you inflate them to 35 psi and maintain that inflation pressure throughout the season.
Don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions.
