Tires: tire comparisons - size, honda odyssey, tire comparisons

Question
My daughter has a Honda Odyssey that has an OEM tire size of 225X60R16.  I have two brand new snow tires that are 225x70R16.  I understand that this would change the speedometer reading by 6.7%.  My question is can these tires be used for the Pittsburgh winters on the front (FWD) of her van.

Thank you,    Roy Murray

Answer
Roy,

Your daughter is going to have problems with winter tires.  Mini vans, especially FWD minivans, are naturally unbalanced - lots of weight on the front.  Putting larger tires on the front makes an already unbalanced vehicle even worse.  Add the fact that they would be winter tires - well, the rears are now horribly different and quite likely to lose control first - and as bad as losing control on the front is, losing control on the rear is even worse.

Given that this is a FWD mini van, and that Pittsburgh is not known for its flat and straight roads, I'd recommend 4 winter tires all around.
