Tires: wheel/tire size, sized tires, car rim

Question
I have a 1999 Accord that takes 205/65R15, and want extra wheels for winter tires. I can get 195/65R15 rims with tires at a good price, but don't know if that will work.

Answer
Dear Ken,
Thank you for using AllExperts!
When specifying wheels for your 1999 Honda Accord, it is necessary to insure that they will fit properly; the following measurements are key to proper fitment:
- Number of bolt holes (some Accords have 4, some have 5)
- The "bolt circle" (distance between the bolt holes).  My records show 114.3mm for your car.
- Rim width (distance between the rim flanges such as 6.0", or 6.5").
- Wheel 'off-set' - a measurement from the wheel's mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel between the flanges.
As these measurements are difficult to conduct on your own, it would be advisable to test fit the wheels in the presence of an expert prior to purchasing them (Honda dealer, local tire shop).  Make sure the wheels are in good condition (no cracks for example), and if they do fit, replace the valve stems as they may be dry-rotted.  Certainly don't use the smaller sized tires on your car.
Hope this helps!
Note: Even the lug nuts must match the wheel...not all lug nuts are alike.  Consult a Honda dealer or tire professional to make sure the lug nuts are proper for the wheel.
