Tires: tire size, eagle alloy rims, american eagle alloy rims

Question
I have a 1961 T-Bird. I just bought a set of used American Eagle alloy rims 15X7. What size tire do I need so they will fit the T-Bird?
ps the rims will fit but the tires that came with them will not they are 275/60R15.

Answer
Barry,

A 1961 Ford Thunderbird originally came with 8.00-14's inflated to 24 psi front and rear.  That means the load carrying capacity has to be at least 1175#.  If you want to use the same inflation pressure, you need to start with a tire with at least a 93 Load Index.

But the biggest problem is how much space there is in the fenderwells.  Unfortunately, there are literally thousands of vehicles and no one has cataloged the fenderwells and their limitations.

I have 2 thoughts on the subject:

1)  Find a web site devoted to your vehicle.  Surely someone has already done what you are considering and they can offer their experience.

2)  If no one has done this, then you have an example you can use.  I would suggest that once you have done the work, you share your experience with others.
