Tires: P255/65R17 Michelins on my 2010 F150, Tires, Towing

Question
Hi Barry (that's my Dad's name BTW),
My truck came with these passenger tires. Are these good enough for towing a 6000lb Airstream or should I get LT tires instead? Also these tires came from the dealership inflated to 40PSI (the sidewall says max 35PSI). Is this normal?

Answer
Michael,

Every vehicle has a towing limitation that is published by the vehicle manufacturer.  If you are towing within those limitations, then the tire size listed on the vehicle placard (and the tires delivered from the factory) will be adequate for this service.  After all, the tire doesn't know if you are towing a vehicle or have load in the pickup bed.  All it senses is the load.

It is not unusual for vehicles to have their tires overinflated to prevent flatspots during shipment.  The dealer is supposed to reset the pressure just prior to delivery - and many don't do a good job in this area.
