Towing Issues: transferring title and still pay money?, tow fee, tow company

Question
My car was towed in San Diego. I am not in San Diego, and I got the notice about two weeks later, so the fee is high now. The car is old (market rate about $1000) and I am thinking it does not worth the money to get it out. I called them and the towing company told me that another way what I can do is to give them the title, and pay them about $360 to waive their deficiency claim. Is it fair? Is transferring the title enough for them? They can sell car anyway..

Answer
Jerry,

I think it is fair. When a car is sold through a tow company, the price is half or less, because it cant be sold for more than the tow bill, otherwise that extra money goes to the previous owner.

Your car being worth $1000 would be worth no more than $400 to the tow company if they're lucky. We are getting $200 for some running and driving, yet old beat up with high miles cars.

I would say to offer them the title, and only the tow fee not including storage
